Feeling the Spirit

Happy December! Can you believe it?? I sure can’t. I have my very last class of the semester today! Craziness.

In an effort to survive finals in the cheeriest mood possible, I’ve taken to decorating my apartment with holiday cheer (seriously considering finding a string of lights to hang up…) and listening to a Pandora Christmas Music station non-stop.

I went to World Market the other day to check out what they had. They didn’t have much in the way of decorations (other than the thousands of ornaments) but I did find this awesome placemat!

I’m totally in love. Oh, and the oats? Pumpkin oatmeal. In the mix today was 1/3 cup oatmeal, 1/3 cup almond milk, 1/3 cup water, 1 T chia seeds, cinnamon, 1/2 cup pumpkin and PB to top! Perfectly delicious for a chilly morning!

I also broke out an old Christmas mug I got years back and made a delicious chai tea latte!

If you have not gotten this foamer from IKEA, it’s a MUST!!! I’m obsessed. Also, a new tip I discovered. Put a little bit of sweetener in the warmed milk before you froth it, it comes out almost like whipped cream (almost is a stretch…). But it really added something to the drink!

I also got so jealous of other bloggers using their leftover cranberry sauce in creative ways and wanted to make my own… so be on the look out for that one popping up.

A couple weeks ago, Julie at Peanut Butter Fingers got some compression sleeves from Zensah and I really wanted to try them out! I knew I needed them when I’d lay in bed at night after a long run that day wishing I had something to wrap around my calves because they felt like they were swelling…

I ordered a pair and they came yesterday!

I tried them on for the fit, but I’m actually thinking about sending them back for a smaller size. For any of you who have compression sleeves, I’d love your advice! I got the S/M and I pulled them on very easily and they don’t really feel like they’re doing anything. I kind of just felt like I was wearing tall socks.

Yesterday all of my classes were cancelled (it’s the last week, and teachers apparently just stop teaching when they feel like they’re done! I’m not complaining…), so I headed over to a coffee shop near me to get some studying done.

Yes, I’m being a total creeper by taking this picture.

It’s called Noble Tree Café and is in a 3 story brown stone building. I really like it because when it’s not packed with people it was fun to walk up the stairs and find a cozy place to sit. I’d gone there last year and there were so many people that I got really frustrated with it, but I’m glad I gave it another go!

Unfortunately, they didn’t have almond milk so I ended up just getting some tea. I ordered the Blueberry Rooibos, which smelled absolutely delicious!

It tasted alright, but it probably would have been good with a little almond milk… I need to find some way to carry around almond milk with me. Suggestions? I did like that you steep your tea and use their mugs when you stay in the store. The café has a great neighborhood feeling to it, so hopefully I’ll be able to get back there before it gets too crowded with students from surrounding colleges! *cough, cough* DePaul.

I actually ended up leaving earlier than I planned because my stomach was growling! I’d been dying to make an open faced-sandwich with my new turkey meet from Trader Joes, so that’s just what I did! I put Dijon mustard on a slice of Udi’s whole grain bread, added the turkey, then some spinach, and then a little gluten-free mozzarella cheese. I put it in the oven on broil for about 5-7 minutes. It definitely hit the spot!

Served with Greek yogurt mixed with peanut flour and grapes! Definitely went back for more grapes… and maybe finished the container off. It happens.

Do you have a certain place you like(d) to study?

Let me know if you have any advice on the compression sleeves or almond milk dilemmas!

I’ve got a huge 1/2 term test tomorrow (a week and a half before the whole term exam – woohoo) so I’ll be studying it up in Starbucks later waiting for my boyfriend to finish work tonight! It’s one of my favourite places to study. I get my highlight on. haha

You’re lucky to be done classes! I have classes right up to my 3 exams – so it’s always a debate of whether to stay home and study on my own or go to the class!

Good luck on your test! I practically LIVED in Starbucks last year during my first year of law school. I knew all the barristas! And my advice is always go to class, especially when people ask questions you never would have thought of.

I’ve never done that but I always carry mine and added it later. I was too shy to try and ask because I was wonder if they think that would be weird. I might get the courage one day. If I do I’ll let you know lol

Your oats and latte look so good! Can you get any mini cartons of almond milk in the states? We can’t get almond milk much here in the UK but I love the mini cartons of rice milk and soy milk we can get that come with a little straw, perhaps you could carry one in your bag for when you need it?

I have been looking for one of those foamers EVERYWHERE! There aren’t any Ikeas close to me, but I’m thinking I might need to make a special trip!

Hey there! Just wanted to stop in and say hi…i’m glad I’ve finally check out your site, super cute! I really like your tip about the sweetner in the froth, that is an amazing thing that I’d never think of on my own!!

Also, I just got compression sleeves but haven’t tried them on. Oh wow, hope I got the right size. I think I got s/m but we’ll see! I’m trying to figure out exactly what temp they will work well in. I’m running a 15k this weekend so we’ll see!

Anyway, thanks for stopping by my site too, glad we found eachother. Look forward to reading more!

Haha Evanston is a bit out of my way, lol but good luck with the visa bill. And I’m so jealous of your peppermint mistos! Stupid starbucks needs to start using almond milk.

I love going to little coffee shops to get work done. They are awesome for people-watching as well. Plus I really love them during the holidays because they all pretty much have a Christmas soundtrack going nonstop!

I’ve not jumped on the compression sleeves/socks bandwagon yet but I hear they are amazing!

I always studied in my bedroom–I am a weirdo. I only went to the library if I HAD to. It was too stuffy for me. I need to LIE down on the floor (on my stomach) to do serious studying. Weird, I know!

I’d say carry almond milk in your bag….it is like extra weight lifting during the day. Hah. Otherwise, no idea?! Maybe they;ll start selling ’em in individual packets.

Lol I’m just not sure how to carry it around! And I had a friend once who had to lay down to study, I just can’t! Too uncomfortable, lol or too comfortable that I fall asleep!

When I was in school, I always enjoyed studying in our university’s library or Starbucks! You could maybe try to store your almond milk in a thermos of some sort? I’m sure you couldn’t keep it in there for hours, but for a little while I’m sure it’d be fine! 🙂

What’s your chai tea latte recipe? I haven’t seen the foamer from IKEA but I’m going to check that out now! Thanks!

    1. peaceloveandoats Post author

i use chai tea that I got from Adagio (or any chai works!) and then once Ive steeped the tea, I heat 1/4 cup almond milk in the microwave and froth it (sometimes adding some truvia before frothing) then I pour the milk on top! Occasionally I’ll mix some cinnamon in too!
