A Dinner Out!

YAY!!!! It’s Friday! Anyone else as happy as I am?! I think I’m going to just pass out when I get home tonight! Haha soooo exhausted from this week. I did have a good time though! On Wednesday night I had a dinner meet-up with some Chicago-area alumni of my sorority, Kappa Delta. We try to get together every month or couple of months and this time we went to dinner at a restaurant called Quartino!

Since dinner was at 7 and I got off work at 5, I didn’t just want to take the bus home and then turn around and come right back downtown, so I grabbed some coffee and hung out for a while downtown. I sat and read by this fountain for a bit. The slight mist from the water was so calming and kept me cool even though it was pretty warm out!

While I was walking to the restaurant, I had to stop and take a picture of this. It was just so pretty all lit up in the dusk light!

Quartino Ristorante & Bar is in the Streeterville area (I believe…) of Chicago and is pretty popular! They are Italian and serve everything tapas style. Since I knew most everyone would order pasta and pizza (which they did!) I decided to just order my own food separately. They even had a gluten free menu!

First I had the Zucchini, served chilled with sundried tomato. It was delicious!

Then I also got some cheese, the Pecorino Romano, but I didn’t end up eating too much because I didn’t like it as much as I thought I would. It was just really dry and flavorless.

The last item I got, and the star of the evening, was their Farmhouse Chicken. Honestly, I was expecting a chicken breast, maybe sliced so it looked nice. Um. They gave me one of every type of piece of chicken: wing, drumstick, breast, thigh, it was SO GOOD! The dark meat was definitely the best but it was amazing. So glad I ordered it!

Although the restaurant is waaaaay too pricy for me to go more than on a random special occasion. I love their tapas concept (everyone else really enjoyed their food and being able to taste about 10 different dishes!), their service was amazing, and the food is delicious and creative!

On Thursday there was a farmers market a few blocks away from my work. My leg muscles have been pretty sore and I keep hearing cherries help with that, so I decided to use my lunch break to walk there and back since it was so nice out!

I ended up getting raspberries and cherries, and let me say, these are the BEST raspberries I have ever eaten. Hands down. They were juicy and amazing. Just amazing. I can’t even think of a better descriptive word, but it was the kind of food where you close your eyes and go “mmmm” when you eat it. Yep. That good.

Have you ever had great farmers market experiences?

Are you a fan of tapas-style restaurants? I can’t every choose, and I like to try a bit of everything, so I love it!

  1. Love love love tapas style restaurants. When I was in Spain, that’s pretty much all I ate. I love that you get to try different types of food without having to make the commitment to a full meal of it.

  2. Oh this post just warms my little heart – I love the farmers mkt and and I love tapas dining. Which first…tapas – it’s the best experience because its communal – you get to eat with friends and try a lot of different foods. I love the culture of Spanish, tapas-style restaurants because it’s not just the food (which is also good), but it’s the experience!

And the farmers market – what could be better than hand-selection of my favorite produce all in one spot, usually while I am wondering the market in the sunshine, with a latte in hand and a farmers market treat of some sort in the other. I used to always get a gluten-free treat to munch on while I walked trough the market, but now I grab a favorite fruit to eat while I do an initial walk through to scope out my favorite stands and then I walk through again to make my purchases, finishing the day with fresh flowers for my kitchen table at home! :)

  3. I keep meaning to go to either the Tuesday or the Thursday Farmer’s Market downtown but I always forget! However, the best thing I’ve ever gotten from a farmer’s market was strawberries at one in Grand Haven, Michigan. I convinced my mom to go there when were on vacation and we got our breakfast at the market. Not much beats sitting by the water eating super fresh and juicy strawberries!

  4. Just went to a farmers’ market last night. The guy at the fruit stand literally took the bag of apricots I was gathering out of my hands and proceeded to fill it up with the remaining apricots in the box– “I’m giving these to you for free”, he said. So nice to know there are considerate people in the world who care more about their customers than their cell-phones going off. This farmers’ market had lots of cool hand-made items on display at different stands; such a good idea. I really love the environment and the apricots, pluots, and peaches I got taste like they came from Eden!! So yummy.

    1. oh yes I did. Haha I really don’t think it’s that hot! I had a craving – I got a cafe au lait with almond milk and one pump of sugar free chocolate! It totally hit the spot.

  5. Craig and my favorite restaurant is a tapas restaurant! But we actually never get tapas, haha, they are too expensive! They have really good sandwiches which is why we love it :-)

  6. I love how the farmers market seems to fit right in with all the big buildings of the city! Farmers markets are one of my favorite past times. And it looks like you got some good stuff too! Always a plus

  7. I’m living in Spain for the summer, so all I go to are tapas restaurants! I love getting to try everything too, although I feel like I probably end up eating more that way!
