Soooo I said August 5th is a big day, I meant the 6th. So GET READY FOR TOMORROW! Haha, never said I’m perfect…

Happy Sunday!! Ahh I can’t believe this upcoming week is my last one at my internship! Time certainly flies by! And then I’m off for a week of traveling! Chicago –> Kansas City –> Colorado Springs –> Boston –> Chicago! Craziness!

Since I’m so busy cleaning, running errands, and watching the Olympics with Molly, here’s a fun survey that I decided to fill out!

“THIS OR THAT” FITNESS SURVEY

I saw this survey on Paige, Ashley and Sara’s blogs and really wanted to fill it out myself! Normally I’m not big on surveys, but I was dying to answer some of these questions! Haha

1. Run/workout in the heat and humidity or freezing cold temps and snow?

Freezing cold temps all the way! I’ve done a 13 mile run in below-freezing temps and several runs this summer in waaaay too hot temps and I’d go with cold any day! The heat just wears you down!

2. Washboard abs or flat abs?

Flat. Washboard abs take way more dedication than I’m willing to put in!

3. Dr. Oz or The Doctors?

I don’t watch either show, but I’ve heard there’s a lot of arguing on the Doctors so I would go with Dr. Oz.

4. Cardio or strength?

This is really hard. I can’t imagine never running again, but strength training is sooooo much more important for your health! I prefer cardio but if I had to choose one to do for the rest of my life, I’d go with strength… ahhh that was so hard.

5. Cravings: Protein or carbs?

I probably crave protein way more than I crave carbs. I’m always thinking of eating some eggs or other kind of meat. Is it weird that I’m craving jerky right now? A little? Probably. Still craving it though.

6. Jillian Michaels or Bob Harper?

Ahhh! Another tough one! I love both of them! I think if I had to choose, I’d want Jillian to be my trainer, but to hang out with Bob as a friend.

7. Frozen Yogurt or Ice Cream?

Is this seriously a question? FROYO ALL THE WAY. If you’ve read this blog for more than 1 day you’d probably already know my answer to that one!

8. To train: Upper body or Lower body?

Definitely upper! My legs get enough work with running, my upper body gets left out!

9. Protein powder or food with protein?

As much as I like my Sunwarrior Protein, most definitely food with protein. So many good foods have protein: Greek yogurt, beans, lentils, fish, meat, eggs, the list goes on and on! Froyo even have some protein! Haha

10. Lunges or squats?

Squats! Lunges always seem to result in me pulling some sort of muscle… I’m so coordinated.

11. Sweet or salty?

This is kind of hard! I guess most of the time I’ll choose sweet over salty, but if I haven’t had something salty in a while I start craving it! (Remember the current jerky craving? Also dying for some french fries…)

12. Workout attire: cute or comfy?

COMFY. I always look like a mess at the gym, I don’t even try. Haha I actually get annoyed with girls who look like they put a lot of effort into it, especially since I’m usually there at 5:30am.

13. Body Pump or Heavy lifting?

I have no idea! I’ve never done body pump, but I have a feeling I would like it more than heavy lifting! I always love the strength part of Jazzercise class!

14. Yoga or Pilates?

I’ve actually never done pilates, but I think I would like it more than yoga! I tend to get bored at yoga, but I think pilates would definitely keep me interested!

15. Nike or Adidas?

Is this seriously a question? I haven’t owned anything from Adidas since those striped tennis shoes everyone wore in like 5th grade. Haha I LIVE in my Norts (Nike Shorts). Love, love, love Nike! See? 2 photos just in this post with me in NIKE shorts!! And doing the same pose… Clearly I’m no model.

16. Running on the treadmill or outdoors?

Hmmmm. If I had to pick one forever I’d definitely pick outdoors because it’s so relaxing, but I’m actually one of those crazy people who loves running on the treadmill!

17. Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s?

I’d have to go with Trader Joe’s, mostly because I can actually afford to buy my groceries there. If money wasn’t an issue then I would definitely go with Whole Foods. But I do love my TJs.

18. Summer or Winter Olympics?

Definitely summer! As I mentioned before, diving and gymnastics are my favorites!

19. Exercise classes or Exercise videos?

CLASSES! I get so motivated and competitive when I have people around me. I really need to go to a class soon, I can’t remember the last time I went to a class at my gym.

20. Steamed veggies or roasted veggies?

Roasted! I almost always steam them, but I prefer roasted. It just takes so long!

    Here are some of my answers!

    Protein powder or food with protein? Definitely food with protein; I think it is better to get as much protein as possible from whole food sources, not from processed powders. Not that protein powders are inherently “bad,” I just think they can be overused sometimes:)

    Steamed or roasted veggies? Roasted!! I think that roasted veggies have WAY more flavor, though it is not always pleasant to roast sweet potatoes when it is almost 100 degrees outside and the last thing I feel like doing is turning on the oven to 400 degrees for an hour…

    Summer or winter Olympics? Summer Olympics for sure:) The gymnastics and diving are probably my favorite as well! Gymnastics because it is somewhat close to dancing, and diving because the flips they do are SO amazing to watch!

    Yoga or Pilates? I have never done Pilates either, but I absolutely LOVE yoga, so I will say yoga is my favorite:) Yoga is great cross-training for ballet dancers–plus, it always makes me feel so relaxed and energized at the same time!

    Working out in heat/humidity or freezing cold? I would definitely say the heat and humidity–being a ballet dancer, my muscles always feel so much warmer and flexible when it is hot, sticky, and humid outside. Plus, I actually enjoy sweating, so it works out great for me:D

  2. Definitely cardio, running outside, the Summer Olympics, and comfy workout clothes. If you saw my hair when I run, you would know I’m all about comfort, not looks (I hate when my hair touches my neck when I run). Hope you are enjoying your time with adorable Molly!

  7. I love running in cold weather, fro yo all the way :), I love yoga and I have never taken body pump but I like doing circuit workouts! I like the survey

  8. I am with you for most of them, but I crave carbs over protein, yoga over pilates, and I love heavy strength training! lol, even though right now I am not my strongest!

    1. You’re a trooper, but I choose sticky, hot, nasty humid running conditions! Mainly because I have the hardest time wearing layers. My extremities go numb in the cold, but my core heats up super fast. Gloves and socks are never warm enough. I’ve raced in cold rain, and the whole time, I cursed the world.

    3. You need to watch Dr. Oz. He is the jam. You would love him to pieces!

    15. Nike is my ultimate go-to. I have over 25 pairs of Tempo shorts, tons of sports bras and racing tops, socks, etc. I don’t wear their shoes, but the clothes are great. They are comfortable, durable, and pretty good-looking…

  10. I’m 1000% with you on preferring to work out in freezing cold and snow. I actually just said to my sister earlier today that if I ever run a half marathon again (or a marathon…hahaha riiiiiiiight), it’s going to have to be in the spring, because I would MUCH rather train in the winter than this summer business. I don’t exactly enjoy feeling like my toes are going to fall off, but I very much enjoy warming up to comfortable rather than feeling like I’m going to die of heat stroke.

    • agree completely with both of you! i have learned this summer while training outside that its always easier for my body to warm up during a cold run but next to impossible for my body to feel comfortable during a hot run. not to mention how much i hate the sweat in your eye burn that i always have going on during hot runs :)

  11. What makes you say that strength is so much better for your health? While strength training does burn calories, can help protect from injury, and has been shown to improve glucose uptake in diabetic people (which is kind of like magic if you ask me); cardio is suuuper important for heart health, prevention of obesity and chronic disease, and about a million other things. I think I’d have a really difficult time answering that question, and may never actually come to a conclusion. I was just surprised by your quick answer!

  12. Haha I have the exact same problem with lunges. I don’t know what my issue is, but I absolutely HATE them. I always feel like I’m doing them wrong or something, but I don’t know why. Squats all the way!

  13. I’m so with you on the whole hot/cold running thing! I really don’t mind running in super cold temperatures. You can layer up all you need to, but they don’t let you run naked!

    Definitely agree that running in cold weather is WAY better than hot. The heat just sucks the energy out of me during runs outside.
    Being comfortable in workout attire is important. I try to find attire that is both cute and comfy – it’s the perfect combination.
