Hey everyone! Remember, you can still enter my Blogiversary Giveaway for Chobani yogurt! Also, check out my guest post on Clean Eating Chelsey!

So last Friday I got an AMAZING opportunity to go sailing! A lawyer in my office offered to take some of the interns out on his boat for the afternoon, and of course I said yes! I grew up sailing every summer at camp, taught sailing one summer at another camp, and have taken 3 different week long sailing trips, two to the Apostle Islands, WI and one to the British Virgin Islands! But I haven’t been sailing in six years, I REALLY REALLY miss it!

Getting on that boat was like riding a bike: you never forget! Although we didn’t have a ton of wind, we had a great time sailing, seeing the city from the water, having some great snacks and fresh watermelon and just hanging out!

I am so thankful to have had that opportunity!

Last week I also finished the book Sisterhood Everlasting, by Ann Brashares

Okay. I actually finished it in 2 days. It was SO GOOD! I would definitely recommend reading the rest of the series first though, this book would just be confusing and depressing if you didn’t already know the characters and their stories!

As I said before, I really enjoyed this book! Although I heard from some of you that you found it depressing, which I can understand. Although the main event at the beginning of the book that starts off the rest of the story is quite shocking and sad, sad things happen in real life and what I loved about this book was showing how each of the women dealt with their grief and eventually came together and realized how important it is to let other people in, rather than just pushing them away during difficult times.

It may not be winning any literary awards, but I think a quick and fun read is important every once and a while (or a lot…). I loved reading the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants movie, so to me this was one more glimpse into their lives and I enjoyed every minute of it! I really just wanted to skip work and stay home to read! I couldn’t put it down!

If you’re a fan of the series, I recommend picking this book up! Meghann loved it too!

Have you ever been sailing?

What’s a book series that you’ve been keeping up with over many years?

  1. so beautiful! I have never sailed which is strange because I am from new england and a big sailing town. I need to try it out!

  2. I loved the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series, and I thought that I’d read Sisterhood Everlasting, but after looking up a summary, I don’t think that I have! I’m going to have to see if my library has it!

I have read all of the Sisterhood books as well, but I thought Sisterhood Everlasting was a bit disappointing. Though I finished it fairly quickly, I felt as though the characters hadn’t matured as much as I had expected them to–in some respects, it seemed as though they still acted like teenagers. Still, it was a fun book to read, even if it wasn’t a very satisfying conclusion to the series (in my opinion, of course!). I have never been sailing, but it looks like so much fun:) One book series that I followed very closely was–no surprise–the Harry Potter series; I LOVE those books!! I watched all the movies as well, though they couldn’t EVER compare to the books in terms of detail and character development:)

  4. I don’t know how to sail, but I love being on the water when other people are doing the sailing. Especially in Chicago, so so beautiful! Also, I nominated you for the Liebster Award: http://lovelaughlaurie.com/olympics-addition-liebster-award-yes-im-obsessed/

  5. i’ve never sailed but i think i’d love to! i love just about any activity that gets you out onto lake michigan. i am already missing the lake :(

  6. I’ve never been sailing, though I love watching the sailboats out on Lake Michigan. Not really the same thing at all, but you know. It’s something. Haha.

  7. I loved that book …and I agree, if you’ve never read the series … you’d probably find it dark and depressing. But I thought it was a great (and more mature) way to wrap up their stories!

I would love to go sailing, but my ability to get seasick is almost gold medal worthy. I guess I will just remain a land lover! I am glad you had fun though. (And how cool of that lawyer to do that for y’all!)*

  9. Oh I would LOVE to go sailing sometime! The view looks gorgeous :)

  10. I’ve never been, but I’d love to one day go!!

  11. I thought it was an okay book….I agree-it was kinda depressing at first. Her writing is a bit annoying too, but overall it’s a fun quick read!

    LOVE the sailing photos!

  12. I stopped reading the series after the first book (which I LOVED!). I should probably find some time to read the others!

    That sailing trip looks beautiful!

  13. I’ve never tried sailing – looks like you get to see some gorgeous views though!

I loved the Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants series – as in, couldn’t tell you how many times i’ve read them. I need to pick up with one sometime!

  14. I have never been sailing, jealous!!
And I LOVED that book… yeah, it was sad, and I don’t think they ever explained enough about why and how you know how died but the ending was amazing.

You look so gorgeous! I’ve never been sailing but it looks like such a fun experience.
And I LOVE your book reviews. Thank you!

    Happy Blogiversary!
how cool that you got to go sailing. I lived near the water most of my life and been on plenty of boats, but never gone sailing. It looks like it was beautiful day for it!

  17. Oh those pictures are beautiful. I’ve never been sailing before, but seeing this post makes me wanna run out & do it now ((even if it’s 7 oclock in the morning right now lol))

  18. I’ve been sailing a few times. One time we tried to put 3 people on a sunfish. Bad idea. I ended up slipping off the front of the boat and being run over by the rudder! I’ve been on a few other sailboats and I definitely enjoyed those rides!
