Thursday Thoughts: Birthday Edition

Hey everyone! I hope you all had a fun and safe Halloween! Nothing too exciting over here. I had to stay late at school for a meeting and then did some studying and some Glee watching and early to bed… I know, WILD. To re-cap my birthday, I’m turning Thursday Thoughts into a birthday edition! With a few random things thrown in. It is Thursday Thoughts…

1. Luckily I got to see MOLLY on my birthday! It was only for a couple minutes, but I always love seeing her!

2. Speaking of Molly….

3. For my birthday, my friend sent me a new pair of norts (nike shorts) and I LOVE them! Had to snap a photo in the gym when I wore them on my birthday!

4. To celebrate my birthday, my brother and sister-in-law took me to the Laugh Factory for a comedy show. Beforehand we went to Falafill for dinner. I’d heard of it from Lindsay and was excited to give it a try! I got the seasonal falafel, which was beans and butternut squash, and filled up at the bar! It was really good!

5. The morning of my birthday my workout was supposed to be 40 min cardio. I know my knee (IT band) hurt during the 5K this weekend but I wanted to try running anyway… Stupid. I had to stop at 2.5 miles and then it was killing me all day. It feels fine when I walk around now, but I’m taking off running again until Monday and rolling/icing like a crazy person.

6. After the Laugh Factory, we saw a guy dressed up sitting alone in the bus stop… I’ve decided he’s dressed as a bumble bee.

Gotta love Halloween.

7. My mom and one of my oldest friends each called and sang me Happy Birthday on the phone. You know people really love you when they’ll sing the whole song to you on the phone every year.

8. At school yesterday, a bunch of people were dressed up. Mostly 1Ls and I think it was for a class, but nevertheless I pretended it was in celebration of my birthday (I pretty much assume all of Halloween is about my birthday…). Elmo:

9. And to round out today’s Thursday Thoughts – Another Molly photo. Of course.

your birthday looked awesome! i’m loving those shorts – which is saying something because you know nikes aren’t my favorite (aka i’m too proud to admit i just can’t afford them). i’m sorry about your it band but i feel like you know all the right things to do to whip it back into shape so i’m sure you’ll be back in no time!

  2. Jessie

I feel terrible I didn’t wish you a Happy Birthday yesterday… so HAPPY BIRTHDAY GIRL!! Your day sounds like it was an absolute blast 🙂

  3. Laura@RunningJunkie123

I love falafels! If you ever come to DC please go to Amsterdam Falafel. It is amazing!

I prefer capri tights. If I wear shorts I feel like my big ‘ol thighs are shaking all over the place. haha.

  4. Christina

I love the Elmo costume! That bumble bee looks so sad. I have never had falafel because it had wheat in it but I may check it out when I’m in the city. My favorite gear to workout in are running crops and a drift shirt. Have a great Thursday!

  5. Angela @ Health's Angel

I love falafel! But I haven’t had one in forever…lame. It’s always so amusing to me seeing people dressed in ridiculous Halloween get-ups during the day. My work is kind of boring (a.k.a. uptight…lol) so no one dressed up around here, but I live close to my alma mater and as I was driving home I saw a lot of random costumes. Leave it to college kids to go all out…

  6. Chelsie @ Balance, Not Scale

Katie — I’m feeling you on the wanting to push the “injuries” and run … I’m having trouble with some ligament inflamation on the inside of my knee, just under the knee cap. I know that it needs time, ice, and patience, but it seems like I’m desperately lacking in all of those. Can we stick it out together? 😉
It looks like you enjoyed your birthday lovin’. Hearing the song “Happy Birthday” sung to me always makes me blush and get uncomfortable, even if it’s over the phone!

  7. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin

I’m glad you had such a good birthday! I’ve never been to a comedy club before but I’ve heard they’re actually really fun so I would love to check one out.

I’m sorry your knee was bothering you. 🙁 I know how frustrating that is! I hope a few days off running is all it needs to get better!

Haha aw I bet not! You could always try making one if you can’t find them anywhere else. Or look for them when traveling!

  8. kelsey

WHAT IS THAT GUY DRESSED AS?! I thought it was a banana but it has eyes! I even googled ‘yellow animal costume’ and nothing popped up…hmm…

Lol I had this same discussion with my brother and sister in law, all we could come up with was bumble bee, especially because of the antennae…

  9. Lia

Sounds like a nice low key birthday day! Molly is pretty adorable and has the sweetest eyes! Just want to snuggle!

I’ve been to the Laugh Factory about 8 months ago and the guy we saw was hilarious, though I don’t remember his name now. Otherwise, just some little spots in NYC when I used to live there.

Falafal and I are good friends. Grew up with them and still flock to them for nostalgia and vegan filling to go food!

And I wear yoga clothes to the gym but that’s because I do more yoga than gym and it all works for the same purpose anyway. I’m not a shorts person (but I also am not a runner at al), more of a capri/pant person. Those shorts look snazzy though.

    1. Katie Post author

I hadn’t ever tried falafel until I moved here, but I love them now! And I just wear yoga clothes around when I should be wearing normal clothes… Ha.

Ahhhh did you go to the RedEye Roast?! I really thought about going, but I have a class on Tuesday nights so I couldn’t make it.

I feel like yesterday was one of the most confusing days of my CTA life. I saw a cow on my way home, which was pretty straightforward, but I also saw someone with an eye patch (just an eye patch, no other pirate-y things) and someone with skin discoloration around her eyes/nose/mouth, and with both the eye patch and skin discoloration person, I wasn’t sure if they were dressed up for Halloween or if they legitimately have eye/skin problems. So confusing!

    1. Katie Post author

I did! It was hilarious! Haha and maybe that person really did need an eye patch?!? Very confusing.

  11. Sierra @ Posh Meets Pavement

I have been wanted to try Falafill sooo bad. We were planning on going on Tuesday, but I got out of my class too late and it was closed. I will have to put it on the agenda for another time because it looks amazing. I love customized food.

My workout uniform is black capris and a lululemon racerback tank. My second choice is tempos or a running skirt.

It was great, and I love seeing comedy shows, I’m glad you’ve gotten to see one too!

  12. Caitlin

    That falafel place looks amazing!!!!

I love comedy shows, last time I was up there we went to Second City and I LOVED it. So much fun!

Sorry about your knee 🙁 I’m having knee pain too but on the opposite side and I’m dying to get running.

Glad you had the most excellent bday!

  13. Madi

there is a falafel house right by my school that all my friends tell me I NEED to go to. I FINALLY went after a party on Friday! It was great (wayyy better than the party) tehehe

  14. Stacey @ Staceyrunsandeats

First, sorry about the ITB woes. I can relate.
Second, what kind of armband is that you use for your phone? And what do you like or dislike about it? I’ve never used one but have been looking into them to use at the gym.

    1. Katie Post author

Hey Stacey! Honestly, I don’t know what kind of armband it is… I can’t find any markings on it and my friend gave it to me because she doesn’t like wearing armbands. I like it though, I rarely notice it and it’s so helpful during runs or just around the gym. I do know mine is specific to the iPhone 4 and I’m pretty sure this is it:,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_cp.r_qf.&fp=1c4a9ad74aefed03&bpcl=37189454&biw=1366&bih=667&tch=1&ech=1&psi=aOCTUOGhF-azyAHqhIGQDA.1351868520753.5&sa=X&ei=guCTUJyQHOnpygHlzYC4Bw&ved=0CIIBEPICMAI
