Thursday Thoughts

Hey everyone! It’s Thursday!!! Aka I just have to get through today and it’s officially the weekend, which I’m looking forward to because of the Girls On the Run 5K!!! I haven’t decided if I’m going to just shamefully stand at the sidelines (okay… cheer…) or try to jog/walk it. I know I won’t be the only walker, but we’ll see…

Anyway, that was enough pity for today because it’s going to be a GREAT day! Who’s with me!?!? I’ve got a whopping $20 burning a hole in my pocket from a teacher’s research study I participated in yesterday, so it’s going to be a good one!

1. You should check out the Target Registry, liked to on Ashley’s blog, for blogger Jen and her family. They lost everything in Sandy and family and friends set up the registry to help them re-build. At first I saw it and thought, other people will donate. Other people with jobs and more money than me. But you know what, I CAN donate, so I did. Obviously I got them a corkscrew. I just wish I could have sent them a bottle of wine with it too…

2. I am now obsessed with The Long Island Medium. I want to meet her! Luckily I’ve only lost my Great Aunt and no one else particularly close to me, but still, how cool?!?!

3. I loved this article Annette linked to on Tuesday. Several made me laugh:

3. How many calories were actually in something you already ate. You’ve eaten it, you’re digesting it, being upset about it isn’t going to make it any less retroactively delicious.

16. The fact that you cannot keep a plant in your home without murdering it. Some people were meant to grow beautiful, sprawling gardens of technicolor vegetation, and some people were meant to make flowers wilt just by looking at them. You may just be the latter.

23. That person on OKCupid who never messaged us back.

4. I tried one of these Health Warrior Chia bars this weekend. I wasn’t a huge fan… the chia seeds got stuck in my teeth and it definitely didn’t taste like chocolate peanut butter… Wasn’t awful, but wasn’t great.

6. My birthday party this weekend was pretty fun, I haven’t been out drinking and dancing in a long time. The place we went to dance has a strobe light on the dance floor, which I LOVE. Whenever it comes on you automatically look like a better dancer. Photo courtesy of Chelsey.

7. I have been listening to Call Me Maybe non-stop for 2 days. WHY??? Maybe I’m in need of something upbeat? I was sitting by a guy on the bus last night and I saw he was listening to country (LOVE) then I realized my phone showed I was listening to Call Me Maybe… No wonder guys don’t talk to me.

8. We’ve had problems over the last year in my building with people stealing packages, so I get them sent to my brother’s. Well, my friend wanted to send me something but wrote on the envelope to warn off any thieves:

I about died laughing. Love her.

9. I haven’t had frozen yogurt in over a week. I think there’s something wrong with me. Or I’m too busy/injured/cold to walk 1.7 miles to my froyo place purely for froyo….

10. Chelsey and I are obsessed with Siri. I have her calling me “Your Royal Highness.” I also got her to sing to me this morning.

Happy Thursday!

If you have an iPhone, what’s the weirdest thing you’ve gotten Siri to do?

What’s your favorite show/song right now?

**Don’t forget to join the Holiday Booty Buster Challenge and use me as your referral AND try and donate to Jen’s registry!!!**

Long Island medium is my guilty pleasure! I love her so much! She is so accurate I lost my grandpa when I was young so I want to see if she can dig up anything. Looks like you had a lot of fun at your party :). Have a great Thursday. I don’t have class tomorrow either so happy early weekend

I actually googled mediums in Chicago and there are a couple, but the highest rated one on Yelp has a year-long waiting list and is $80…

  2. molly @ heart, sole & cereal

you looked so gorgeous on your birthday! also that package note is the funniest thing i’ve ever seen lol. i always love your thursday thoughts but i’m not going to lie – i hate the first one. i’m super jealous it’s almost your weekend!!!!

Hahaha I’m sorry! But hey, you got a few days off last week, right? I’m excited because it’s the first Friday I don’t have GOTR practice so it really is a completely free day! Lol but then I have to be with the girls from 6:15am to noon on Saturday… give and take.

Hahahaha trust me, it was to crowded and too many flashing lights to see how awful our moves were!

  3. Chelsie @ Balance, Not Scale

TOTALLY guilty of being on the Call Me Maybe bandwagon. Whenever it comes on when I’m running (which it always does because I will always make it play at SOME point), I get THE biggest goofy runners grin on my face and am always able to push harder.
Actually, who am I trying to kid … I get that goofy grin whenever it plays, which is usually multiple times a day. #noshame. It makes me happy, that’s all I care about!

Hahaha me too, although I start lip-syncing along to it, I always wonder if people realize what I’m listening to…

  4. Courtney @ Semi-Sweet Eats

I am OBSESSED with Long Island Medium. I wish I could meet her too. Same with Call Me Maybe- it’s just such a catchy song… how could you not love it?! 🙂

Beautiful pic of you and Chelsea! Drinking and dancing sounds like fun 🙂

Maybe we should just go to Long Island and walk around until we run into her? Haha I wonder if people do that…

You have to keep asking! And she’ll call you whatever you want, just say “Call me ____ “

  5. Bethany @ Accidental Intentions

If you’re looking for an ego boost, ask Siri, “Who’s the fairest of them all?” Instant happiness. She once told me a long winded story about a couple of iPhones when I asked her to tell me a story…that was also wonderful. She’s a little biased if you ask her what the best smartphone or best computer is, though 😛 I was a Spanish minor in college, so sometimes I like to switch her to Spanish and attempt to converse with her. I find everything she says 10 times more amusing when it’s in Spanish.

The Siri thing is too hilarious! Right after my mom got hers, she was trying to text my sister to tell her they were stopping at the store for something and Siri interrupted that as “stopping at the store for condoms”! My mom actually sent it before she realized what happened!!

  7. Lia

Hahahahahaha! I love your Siri bit! I don’t have Siri – old I-Phone. That challenge sounds like a very well organized good idea. I’m eager to hear how it works for people in terms of motivation etc.

Every time I go to my gym they play Call Me Maybe in the first 15 mins I’m there. my timing is awesome. Now it totally peps me for a good workout as ridiculously hilarious as I find the song.

    Happy Thursday to you!

Hahahahahahahahaha omg that’s funny, try asking again! I find she gives different answers when I ask multiple times.

  8. Sarah

I love siri! No, actually, what I love is watching my mom try to use her. She starts yelling into the microphone and I don’t think she has actually gotten it to do what she asks yet. We’re talking about 4 months with the phone and she still can’t use it. But she doesn’t say some pretty ridiculous things!

    1. Katie Post author

Hahahaha I should try to get my mom to use Siri! She is not a technological person… at all, I’m actually shocked she can operate her iPhone.

  9. Lauren

    >>>23. That person on OKCupid who never messaged us back.<<<

True. Though you do remember the ones who do. I found my husband on there!

Where did you go out dancing?

    1. Katie Post author

Did you really?!!? Okay I need to get back on. We went to Roscoe’s, it’s a gay bar at Halsted and Roscoe in Boystown!

    1. Katie Post author

A very good cause, I didn’t realize how bad things were until I read their story which led me to others

  10. Yellow Haired Girl

Okay. Long Island Medium. I’m fascinated … and that’s not something I would EVER watch! I had a friend over a few weeks ago and she suggested we watch it. A new guilty pleasure!

  11. Cate

I did the HBBC last year and it was a fun way to stay motivated throughout the holidays!
I need a new phone, but wasn’t sure if I should get the iPhone 4 or the 4s which has Siri, it looks like I might need to get Siri… 🙂
Favorite Song right now is probably Poison and Wine by The Civil Wars, it is constantly playing on my iPhone and in my head.
