BBC–Week 4

Hi everyone, I hope you’re all having a good weekend! Mine started off pretty awesome with a girls night with some friends, and then turned into an incredibly lazy day due to said girls night… but today I’m back at it!

I’m glad you all enjoyed my picmonkey tutorial on Friday, I kind of threw that together at the last minute but now I’m glad I did! I also got many other questions about picmonkey after doing that, so I’ll turn this into a series, maybe three posts? Tomorrow or Tuesday I’ll share with you all how I make my weekly workout schedules, which is the topic of today’s post!

As many of you know, I’m participating in Tina’s Best Body Bootcamp!

This week was the fourth week, and the second of the second phase. Bootcamp is split up into 4 phases, each 2 weeks long, which means that we repeat the workouts for 2 weeks. I love that we do this because I like having a little consistency, but then switching it up after 2 weeks. This phase was definitely my favorite, and I know it will be better than the next one… I’m legitimately not excited for the next phase (LOTS of burpees every single day – I think I might adjust this a few days or I’ll be dreading the workouts).

In phase 2 we did ladders, where we did a set of 5 reps, 6 reps, and so on until we got to 10, and then we did isometric holds, which involved doing 5 reps, holding for 5 seconds, 5 reps, and so on. I’m more of a weight lifting girl than a circuit workout girl so I loved it!

Here were my workouts from this week:

Monday – REST DAY. As I said last week, I knew I’d end up taking an early rest day. I hadn’t taken a real one last week and I was exhausted! + PT appointment

Tuesday – Workout A + 3 miles!!! My physical therapist said I could try running if I did a run/walk, so I did that for almost 30 minutes, running for 4 minutes and walking for 1. I hit 3 miles but my knee started hurting right before. It was nice to get 3 min though!

Wednesday – Cardio. I mixed it up between several cardio machines and 1 mile of running. My knee started hurting though at the end of the mile 🙁

Thursday – Early morning workout B before my PT appointment. Also ran 1 mile during the appointment while they filmed me running (I’ll learn more about that next week).

Friday – Semi-rest day. Didn’t do an official workout because I felt worn out by all the PT appointments AND workouts. But I did walk to and from our Girls On the Run final celebration (pizza party!) which was just under 4 miles.

Saturday – Workout C + elliptical. I almost didn’t workout, mostly because I was falling back into old patterns of over-eating, hating myself and laying in bed. Sounds fun, right? Well finally I told myself to snap out of it! This isn’t me anymore! So I put on some walking gear and headed outside, and ended up at the gym! I’m so glad I did because I felt soooo much better getting in my workout.

Sunday – I’m considering heading OUTSIDE to attempt to run. I haven’t gone outside because I don’t know when my knee will act up and I’ll have to stop, but I soooo want to run outside, so I’m thinking of coming up with some sort of out and back and different directions course so I’m never far from home…

So there you have it! Last week was a crazy busy week for me, and I think I let the stress really get to me. Can’t do that anymore! I’m exciting for this upcoming week, especially Thursday’s Turkey Trot 5K with my dad! Although honestly I think he’s going to kick my butt at this point. I’ve barely hit 3 miles in the past few weeks and I don’t know how my knee will hold up. Then there’s my dad who’s breaking out of his 4 mile route and getting up to 6 miles!!! Go Dad! Haha so we’ll see how this goes. Perhaps he’ll have mercy on me…

Here are next week’s workouts:

workouts nov 18

I’m not sure if I’ll get in Wednesday’s workout B, so I’m planning to attempt to get it in either Wednesday afternoon (I fly home in the morning) or Thursday afternoon (we do Thanksgiving around 6pm), but either way it’s about being flexible and spending time with family! And I fly home mid-day Sunday, so I figured that would be the best rest day.

And before I leave you all, I had to mention: I’m officially into Christmas music. Try it, trust me, you’ll love it. And there’s a Glee Christmas station… enough said.

Does stress cause you to fall into bad habits?

Anyone else traveling for Thanksgiving?

Have you started listening to Christmas music?

I haven’t started listening to Christmas music yet, but Christmas movies are definitely underway — Elf, The Holiday, Love Actually. <3 Love them all! 😀
As for training through stress — I'm bad for taking it to the extremes. I'll either hit it too hard or I'll back away completely because of lack of time/too much anxiety. I think that I would definitely do better with more balance … I'm working on it. I think that it's a hard happy medium to strike, but I think that it's important to give it a shot.
Hope you're starting to feel better and that your PT appointments are helping things. I think your neighbourhood loop idea to test out your knee is perfect. Good luck!! 🙂

  2. Emily @ Perfection Isn't Happy

I’m running a Thanksgiving Day race with my dad too, and I’m pretty sure he might beat me to the finish. I’m still not fully recovered from my half marathon, and when I ran yesterday, I did something to my knee. I hope that your knee feels better soon!

I love how you put your workouts on a cool design board! Stress puts me into some really bad habits. I dont want to get out of bed, I overeat, I am too lazy to workout and I am anti social. Thats awesome that you and your dad run! My favorite christmas station is Michael Buble.

Well it sounds like last week was a rough one all around for just about everyone (myself included). Take a look at all you did do, hun. A whole in my book! And it’s awesome that you’re listening to your body and doing what it needs right now with the PT and decreased running. You’ll get back up there 🙂

Thanks, Caitlin! And I hope you have a better week next week, I think things get so stressful this time of year!

Sounds like a physically busy week at least, and I’m sure there was more going on behind that too, like school etc. Stress sucks! I tend to fall into old bad habit when I get anxious, that “everything is out of my control” feeling. No fun. A lot of people are having an intense week this week. Hopefully next week will be smooth sailing. I’m staying in Chi with my roomy and we’re having a mostly vegan Thanksgiving. She’ll be doing a little chicken and I’ll be spending the day veganizing her favorite green bean casserole, and making pie etc. I’m off work too, which is nice. And no, hahaha, I am not a listen to Christmas music early sort of person hahahaha! I like it in December, for maybe 2 weeks. Have a good Sunday!!

Oh yes, it was a big school week! And your thanksgiving sounds fun, my friend did that once when she stayed in San Francisco for Thanksgiving (where she lives now) and she did a gluten-free Thanksgiving with a few friends!

  6. Devon @ Health in Equilibrium

OMG, I am TOTALLY into Christmas music and everyone thinks I’m crazy! My favourite is Michael Buble’s version of “All I Want for Christmas is You”, listen to it, it’s amazing!! And my girls night always result in a lazy day afterwards when they involve that much wine. Totally worth it though.

Good luck with your next bootcamp phase! I used to hate burpees too, but Zuzana actually managed to get me into them and now they make me feel like a total badass. You can do it, just POWER THROUGH! 🙂

I LOVE all Michael Buble Christmas songs, he’s fantastic! Haha and we’ll see how the burpees go, I think part of it is I’m embarrassed to do them in the gym when other people are watching (unless it’s a class and everyone is doing them).

  7. Lindsay @ Running the Windy City

Running yesterday after the girls night was a little rough, especially because I was planning on doing speedwork. I did feel 1,000x better afterwards so it was worth it. I’m glad you felt better too!

We’re driving home Wednesday night which means it’ll probably take us 2 more hours than usual with traffic. I’m also running a Turkey Trot early on Thursday (probably on like 4 hours of sleep). It should be fun :P.

I’m horrible about eating when I’m stressed. If I’m busy stressed I won’t eat until I have a break and then I want to eat all the things and I end up feeling sick. Blah. I think stress eating happens to most of us though and its probably okay (although uncomfortable) for it to happen on occasion as long as it doesn’t become a pattern.

    1. Katie Post author

Haha at least the turkey trot is only 3 miles (i assume), so you can go right back to sleep? haha

  8. elise

ok so that group right before glee – straight no chaser – has become my new fave thanks to christmas pandora.

oh and btw, im really jealous of your workouts. i cannt WAIT til im back in the fitness action plan. gah. so far away…

    1. Katie Post author

I LOVE them!!! And yes, I also discovered them from Pandora! And at least you get something amazing out of all this non-working out!

  9. Karey @ Nutty About Health

Sorry you had a rough & stressful week! Yes, stress does cause me to fall into bad habits too. I was stressed when we moved across the country in mid August, which caused me to eat like crap, thus ending up gaining a bit of weight. Stress can be challenging, to say the least. Hope next week is better for you & that the knee behaves!

  10. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin

Stress makes me fall into really bad habits too! I’m actually in the middle of writing a giant brain dump of a post on that topic haha. Good for you for pulling yourself out of it and going to the gym though – it’s important to show that stress who’s boss! 😉

I’ve definitely started listening to Christmas music – it puts me in such a good mood! Especially anything Michael Buble sings!

  11. Cait the Arty Runnerchick

oh i hope ur outdoor run goes well and the knee doesn’t act up! 🙂

good for u in catching ur old habit of stress eating and instead of getting sucked into the more depressive mood u forced urself get in a good sweat session. i think when we all get stressed/busy it’s easy to slip into past coping mechanisms…but wat matters is if u catch it and CHOOSE to deal with those feelings in a healthier way. good job girl. that said, i still don’t understand how u manage to cram in as much as u do into a day…no wonder u’re stressed! great job on all accounts and glad u had a fun night with ur friends. 🙂
