Hellooooooooo from Kansas City! My flight yesterday went very smoothly and I am home with my family! Well… with my parents since my older brother isn’t coming home for Thanksgiving and my younger brother moved into his own apartment!
Anyway, I’m sure you all have traveling and cooking to get back to, so let’s get on to What I Ate Wednesday! If you are new to WIAW, head over to Peas and Crayons to see what it’s all about and find other participating blogs!
This week’s WIAW is from Monday, and shows my attempt to clean everything out of my fridge before I left! I decided to sleep in on Monday and do my workout later, so breakfast was a sweet potato, two eggs and some sliced bell peppers (sriracha added after photo).
Then I was off to class! For snacks, I had a Health Warrior Chia Bar, which I’m loving right now…
And then a banana on the way home! I knew I was going to make lunch when I got home but my stomach was growling and I just couldn’t wait a whole hour!
For lunch, I cut up two chicken sausages from Trader Joe’s and sauteed them with spinach and eggplant.
And a Dark Chocolate Hersey’s Kiss for dessert!
After lunch I read a few blogs, and then went to run some errands. One of them brought me near my froyo place, so I stopped in! When she checked off my sheet, I saw I hadn’t been in for weeks!!! Blasphemy! (for new readers, I won a year of free froyo!).
After errands, I stopped by my brother and sister-in-law’s to see this gorgeous face!
After hanging out with her a while and then taking her to the park, it was time for the gym! However I was feeling a little hungry so I snagged a brown rice cake (thanks lauren…!) and topped it with some salsa. I only ended up eating about half because it was more filling than I expected.
After my workout, I headed home and showered and then made some dinner! It will look very familiar…. This time I sautéed two chicken sausages with eggplant and bell peppers! Haha thrilling, but delicious.
I ended the evening with some strawberry protein ice cream. Perfection.

Today’s WIAW comes from Saturday, the day of my 10 mile long run! My official group run with CARA had been cancelled due to “excessive heat” (it was 82 when I got up at 4:45) so I decided to do it myself and try and get out there a little earlier!
Since I wanted to be out the door ASAP, I got up and headed straight to the coffee machine! It was coffee and water for me, and then half a banana with PB for some fuel.

When I got back from my run I wasn’t hungry (pretty dehydrated) but I knew I had to eat something so I made an over easy egg and a sweet potato and managed to eat almost all of it. And yes, this is an old picture… Ignore the green stuff.
After breakfast, I headed down to the farmers market in an attempt to beat the heat! Unfortunately, it was already 98 degrees… Oh well.
I did get some zucchini and yellow squash, and of course some more berries! Soooo delicious!
On the walk home I was dying of thirst and had already finished the water bottle I brought with me. I decided to stop into starbucks for some cool air and an iced green tea! My friend taught me a trick: order it without water! That way it’s all green tea (they normally add water to dilute it) and the ice melting doesn’t make it super watery!
When I got home, I snacked on a few of the berries before heading to lunch with my brother. We went to a Mexican restaurant (his favorite) and I got the Bare-it-all-rrito! It’s basically a burrito but without the flour tortilla. I also ordered a side of avocado to add to it for some healthy fats! Very delicious.
After lunch I was feeling pretty exhausted from all the heat and walking around, so I headed home and rested up before a blogger meet up! I had some more berries to snack on before the meet up:
I got strawberry banana and cherry, with plenty of berries on top, some mochi (I think?) a few mini reeses pieces and two mini PB cups! Haha love those. Delicious as always!
Forever Yogurt is right next to a Whole Foods, so I headed up there to do little grocery shopping and grabbed some food from the hot bar for dinner! So good, and it was under $10! Haha I was shocked because I felt like I got a ton of heavy veggies since they’d all been roasted! Some chicken and beans in there too for protein, and a few chips for good measure.
After dinner I had some more ice cream… Haha it was a HOT day! And my post-run hunger was setting in, no more nausea like earlier in the morning! I’m also trying to eat less sugar, so I had my Artic Zero (which really isn’t ice cream… haha it’s like protein ice cream) with some raspberries and PB2. Normally I get a few candies, like chocolate covered nuts, from Whole Foods to top my ice cream with, but the sugar is just too much so I’m cutting back!
Here’s where things get… interesting. A little bit later I was CRAVING some PB and berries. I should have had some tea or just gone on a walk (I was definitely full) but I ate the PB and berries anyway. Bad idea. Delicious. But bad idea. I also ended up eating a big handful of roasted peanuts that I’d gotten at Whole Foods earlier with chocolate PB2…
I considered just not mentioning it, but I’m trying to be honest about the emotional/binge eating that I mentioned before! Although this tasted great, I felt AWFUL afterwards. I think being more honest about instances like this is going to help me avoid them in the future. I know sugary things are a big trigger for me, so maybe just no “ice cream” for a while? Maybe the froyo set me off for the rest of the day… Sigh. I love froyo.
I also think a lack of breakfast didn’t help, my body was probably starving for more calories! One of my big goals for the next few weeks is to eat a breakfast with more healthy fats and add a morning snack in. I’m always starving by the time I eat lunch, which is never a good thing! Good thing I’ve got great support from some of my friends! (and of course all of you!).

No, no. Your eyes are not deceiving you. That is a rainbow cake in a jar. You think oats in a jar are cool? Um this is so neat!!!! People are so creative on pinterest… Unfortunately, I do not have the time or resources to make and send them all out. So you might have to ask someone else…
Yesterday I had a couple interesting things happen. First, I discovered one of the perils of traveling through downtown Chicago:
Yes. I was late to class. Only by a minute though!
Secondly, I realized I hadn’t used my free Fro-yo last week! I kept putting it off hoping to go with someone, but then I realized that the new week began today (Friday) so I just HAD to go use it. Here’s my froyo after digging in:
Lessons learned? Don’t get flavors you “think you remember liking” last time you tried them… Key lime pie? YUCK. I ate around it and tossed it… Never making that mistake again.
Also, this whole free froyo thing is WAY more official than I anticipated. When I handed the cashier the card she looked really confused and called over her manager. He (with his mohawk) got very excited, and pulled out a binder from beneath the counter! He gave me a form to sign my name on with my official number and then marked that week off. Every time I go in now, I have to show them my ID, they match it to the number on my card, and mark me off for coming in that week in the binder. REALLY!?!? Haha these people take their frozen yogurt very seriously.
Another fun thing? Looking at my blog statistics when I’m bored. No, I’m not obsessing over my pageviews, but I do LOVE numbers. I’m a freak. However, one of my favorite things to look at are search terms…
When I look at the statistics on my blog, one thing that wordpress shows me are the search terms that people used and ended up finding my blog. Most of them are pretty normal, like “peace love oats” or asking about certain oatmeal recipes or fitness things. However, some of them are pretty weird… Like really weird.
I often wonder how these searches lead them to my blog, and most of all, did they take a look around? Did they keep reading? I will never know. But I will share with you some of the funny search terms that have been used:
– Fit asian girl legs – real snoopy – love balls insert pic<—not even sure where they were going with this… – bat dog picture homeward bound – shut the front doorr shoes<—No, I did not spell that incorrectly, their spelling… – budlight decorations – i decided to go with my friends camping in the forest – chopped my hair off – no soup for you – how to say crepe<—Maybe google heard I took French growing up? – cartoon food clip art that has faces
