Hey everyone! I hope you’re all having a good weekend, I sure am! I’m here in Boston for the Healthy Living Summit and really enjoying it! Friday afternoon my flight got in around 3pm and I headed over to our hotel, the Hyatt Regency in Cambridge. I met my roomies after registering and grabbed all my swag!
We got Reebok shoes (!!!!!) and a big bag full of tons of goodies. A bunch had gluten so I set those out for my roommates to go ahead and take what they wanted, but had plenty left! Haha not sure how I’m going to pack all of this…
My roommates for the weekend are Tessa, Julia, and Rachel! We went for a walk along the river to kill some time before the cocktail party and hung out in the room for a bit eating snacks. When it was time for the cocktail party we headed down! It was hosted by Reebotalizer and had some hors-d'oeuvres and we each got a drink ticket for a drink. I was actually surprised, the only free drink was water! Haha, good thing I like water.
I was actually surprised at how many bloggers were there that I DIDN’T recognize! I barely recognized anyone, although as more and more people showed up I started seeing girls I knew, like Sarah, Chelcie, and Clare!
They also had a photo booth, which was a blast! I actually can’t ever remember doing a photo booth so this was fun!
We ended the evening around 10 pm, headed upstairs and chatted a bit and then crashed! 4 am wake up call 2 days in a row = exhausted Katie!
Saturday morning several girls went out on runs and I had a 16 miler on the docket. However, my knees were so sore from the hike and my legs were still hurting from being burnt, I decided I needed the extra sleep and skipped out on the running! We headed down to breakfast at 8 am, which was hosted by Wild Harvest.
Later in the morning, we had a CrossFit workout. Reebok gave shoes to all the attendees (!!!!) so we were all outfitted and ready to go.
There were some representatives from Crossfit Boston there to teach us how to properly squat. Let’s just say that I’ve been doing squats very wrong… It was pretty fun although I was a bit disappointed in how short it was. Granted, they couldn’t have us do much since there were so many of us in a small space. It was great to talk to them afterward, I’ve been wanting to try CrossFit but it’s expensive plus the fact I’ve heard it’s hard to do CrossFit and distance running. They told me there’s something called CrossFit endurance, so I’m going to look into it!
After CrossFit we had a couple morning sessions, I went to two sessions: Blog Photog Basics with Gretchen Powell, author of Honey, I Shrunk the Gretchen! and then Blogging with Brands, which was a panel led by Lauren Podolsky. To see all the bloggers and brands involved check out the HLS site on the panel here. The photography sessions were interesting but not as good for me since I use my iPhone… Although I did find out about an app called Camera+ that I’m going to check out! The branding one was really interesting because I haven’t done much work with brands.
Then it was time for lunch! Lunch was great, especially since everything was gluten-free! Even the naan, which I was ridiculously pumped about!
When lunch ended we listened to our keynote speakers, Genie and Kim from Wild Harvest. They talked about nutrition, what they do to promote nutrition and then how to write and form recipes. It was actually really interesting and I wish they could have kept going! Actually, I felt that way about almost all the sessions I went to!
After the keynote speech, we had two more sessions. First I went to I Am the Blogger In Your Neighborhood, which was a panel hosted by Holly, including Meghann and Clare. They had some really good tips about how to get involved as a blogger in your community! Next up was The Fuzzy Grey Areas of Blogging, which was another panel hosted by Rachel Wilkerson with Dori Manela and Teri Zawronty. I’d actually never read any of their blogs but I loved the session and I’ve added them to my reader! Although honestly, I was hoping the session would get into a little more controversial issues, but I think they just didn’t have enough time!
After the sessions, there were some closing remarks, including some raffle giveaway prizes! I didn’t win anything (granted, I wouldn’t have been able to fit it in my bag with all the other goodies from our sponsors) but my roomie Rachel won a gift basket from Wild Harvest!
When everything wrapped up, we headed upstairs to shower and then off to Harvard Square where we met a big group of bloggers and some of the CrossFit coaches from that morning at Café Sushi. The sushi was great, but the company was even better! (corny, I know).
I had some Clear Soup and then ordered two rolls: yellowtail and scallions and then tuna and avocado. Very good!
After dinner, we walked around and went to Berry Lime, a local frozen yogurt place. It was really cute and good, although they only had 3 flavors. The quality totally made up for it though!
My roommates and I then decided to head over to a small bar to hang out with some of the CrossFit coaches. They were absolutely hilarious and decided to come up with a blog of their own. I would totally read it, but I have a feeling it’s not going to happen… Haha oh well. I had a really good time and was glad I decided to stay out, I forgot how much fun being SOCIAL can be, rather than worrying about my bedtime! (and we still got back by 11:30… gotta love healthy living bloggers).
In the morning there was a run/walk 5K and although my legs were still sore from my hike, I was excited to run in Boston! Surprisingly I felt great and really enjoyed the run, especially since I got to spend more time talking to Tessa, and a little time talking to Amanda! It was great to meet her!
After the run, it was time for breakfast where many of us said our goodbyes. It was really sad to see everyone go, it was so nice to spend a weekend with people who are so similar to me! My flight wasn’t until almost 8 pm (cheaper) so I showered, packed, said goodbyes and then went to lunch with Lindsay, Lisa, and Sara where I ordered a veggie frittata.
After lunch, Sara and I walked around a bit and I got my first try of JP Licks! Pretty good stuff!
I had a great weekend and can’t wait to give you all a more detailed re-cap of my thoughts sometime this week!
