I came across the quote below last week and it really got me thinking. I can think of many times throughout my life where I looked at a peer of mine and wished I could do what she was doing. I wished I had the courage, talent, gumption, or whatever it was that she had that I didn't. I wanted whatever that secret sauce was that separates the girls who go after what they want versus those who sit comfortably on the sidelines.
What do they have that I don't?
I bet you know where I'm going with this thought. There's nothing they have that I don't - they just aren't getting in their own way. They aren't holding themselves back out of fear.
There's nothing different between me and other women who go after what they want in life. Whether that's becoming fitter, creating their dream job, traveling, or whatever else I may want to do in my life. I don't have to just sit back and watch other women go for it, I am capable of doing so too.
Who do you want to be? Who are the women you look at and think, "gosh I wish I had that life."
It's taken a long time of testing the waters, getting my toes wet, and finally learning to believe in myself and not worry about what other people think, but I finally realized that I can go for things I want just like any other woman can.
What is the biggest thing that stands in my way? Excuses. We all have them and use them every single day.
Oh, I can't go out tonight, I'm tired.
I don't have time to workout, I have too much going on right now.
I can't build my own business, I have kids to take care of.
I'm not young enough, I'm not smart enough, I'm not pretty enough, I'm not creative enough.
But you ARE.
If you set your mind to something and you work hard, you can be and do whatever you dream of doing. It may take years, it may take sacrifices and it may take pushing through days where you just don't want to anymore, but you CAN go for your dreams. You CAN be that girl who has the "special sauce" to make things in life happen.
Do you want to spend your life on the sidelines? Or do you want to tell your fears and excuses to sit in the backseat while you take the wheel? I'm not going to pretend I don't have mini panic attacks and want to run away and hide. Trust me, it happens all. the. time. But I do get back up and keep moving forward, because if we aren't moving forward and creating change, then we'll never get anywhere. I know our comfort zones are comfortable... but I don't want to live a comfortable life while looking at others and silently wishing I could do what they do. At the very least, I want to know I tried.
So ask yourself this today: What are you letting fear and excuses hold you back from?
What do you really wish you could accomplish - in your WILDEST DREAMS? Now sit down and break that dream down. What little things can you start doing TODAY to get closer to where you want to be?
It's all in the baby steps. You don't have to be black and white, all or nothing. Start small. Start moving in the right direction and before you know it, you'll be further than you could have ever imagined.
