Get On The Plane: NOLA Trip Recap

July 21, 2017

I know, it's been a while, but things have been pretty crazy! While I have been busy, I've also been decompressing from a big weekend and dealing with dog-sitting. I'm with one dog this week, Monday through Friday, then on Friday, I switch to two dogs for SIXTEEN nights! You read that right! But let's move on because that's not what this post is about!

Today, I want to talk about my trip to New Orleans for the 2017 Beachbody Summit, which is essentially our big conference for Beachbody coaches. There were about 20,000 coaches there! This was the third year I've attended but the first time that I've been genuinely nervous.

Screen Shot 2018-07-14 at 4.18.37 PM.png

Why was I so nervous? Because this year I felt like an outsider. Do you ever feel that way? Like you're showing up for something and everyone else is on one page and you are totally somewhere else? Well, I was afraid that because I'm not really coaching right now that I'd either feel really separate from everyone else who is super fired up about coaching, or they'd all try to convince me to dive back in.

To be honest, I almost didn't get on the plane.

The whole morning that I was heading to the airport and getting ready to leave I had to keep fighting the urge to turn around and go back home. I was ready to leave my luggage and book it! Luckily, I have a few experiences and tools under my belt.

Screen Shot 2018-07-14 at 4.18.58 PM.png

I asked myself, what's the biggest reason you don't want to go? I realized that the ONLY reason I didn't want to go was that I was afraid. And you know what?

I refuse to let fear drive my life.

I know from many, many experiences that when I get out of my comfort zone and do something that I was nervous about doing, 99% of the time I am so glad that I pushed myself. I almost always end up thanking myself and God for that last push to get me to go because I always gain so much or at least have a fun time.

Screen Shot 2018-07-14 at 4.20.29 PM.png

And we sure had fun!

Within a minute of seeing my teammates, I knew I'd made the right choice. It was so good to see them and hug them and they all told me they were so glad that I came. You know what? I'm so glad too.

Screen Shot 2018-07-14 at 4.20.55 PM.png

Yes, there were workshops around coaching and I zoned out more than I would have in previous years (although, to be honest, I'd heard of lot of it before!). But there were also some amazing speakers that I took pages of notes from, there were fun celebrations that I enjoyed watching with my teammates, but most of all, there were those moments when we were just hanging out together.

Screen Shot 2018-07-14 at 4.21.47 PM.png

Whether it included adventures on Bourbon Street and Frenchman Street or sitting on the floor of a conference center, I loved every minute with these women. Some of them are friends I'd met at previous conferences and talked with over the year, others were women I knew of but I'd never really talked to or seen in person.

Every single one of them felt like family. It sounds cliche but it's so true:

Your vibe attracts your tribe.

My coach, Anna, has done an amazing job of attracting a group of women who all seem to just "get" each other. Some of the girls I'd never spoken to and suddenly we're realizing just how similar we are and could have talked for hours. I wish we'd been able to, but the time just flew by!

Screen Shot 2018-07-14 at 4.22.18 PM.png

So, as I expected when I pushed myself onto that plane, I had a great trip. I made memories that will last me a lifetime, I made new friends, I reconnected with old ones, and I got to see New Orleans through a 29 year-old's eyes rather than a 20 year-old's.

Next time you find yourself presented with an opportunity and it makes you freak out a bit with fear and anxiety, ask yourself: "Am I being led by fear or led by love?" Push yourself out of your comfort zone and you'll either be rewarded with a great experience or at least you'll learn something about yourself.

San Francisco Inspiration Day

Nov 15, 2016

This past Friday I attended an event called Inspiration Day in San Francisco, which was put on by the coaching academy I took my life coaching course with, Beautiful You Coaching Academy. I actually can't believe it's all over! It was SUCH a blessing and exactly what my heart needed right now.

Screen Shot 2018-07-10 at 8.02.13 PM.png

To be honest, going in I did NOT want to be there. I was feeling bad about how my coaching business was going, thinking I wasn’t doing as well as everyone else, or I had wasted away my time and opportunity, and that I just wasn't good enough. You know, all those horrible thoughts that AREN'T TRUE and that I'm always working to keep out of my head! Understandably, I was feeling some major social anxiety - I was just NOT in the mood for chit-chatting with a bunch of happy people!

Luckily, I was attending with Anna and that made me feel so much better to have her support and know someone was going in with me. Friends are the best.

And can you guess what happened?

I came out with a full heart and felt SO inspired!

Screen Shot 2018-07-10 at 8.03.28 PM.png

I guess it was called Inspiration Day for a reason! But seriously, the day ended up being a big game changer for me. I walked in just wanting to get through it and get it over with, but it ended up making me feel so much better about where I am with my business and in life.

One of the things a speaker said that really clicked with me was that there are three phases to any project:

1) The shiny new phase, where you're so excited about your new idea;

2) the development phase, where you have to really put in the work and things get hard;

3) and the flow phase, where you've really gotten your project off the ground and things are clicking.

Guess where I am? The development stage. This is where most people quit - thinking it's harder than they thought, that maybe it wasn't meant to be, or they lose sight of their end goal and get distracted by something else. But you know what? Things are SUPPOSED to be tough! This is where I’m learning and going through growing pains and doing the hard work. This is where it isn’t new and fun anymore but it’s isn’t flowing yet.

Screen Shot 2018-07-10 at 8.04.00 PM.png

One of our speakers, Travis Barton, was talking to me after the event, asking me about my business, and when I told him I was really struggling with confidence he said to me: "You took this course right? You graduated from this course, right? Then you can do this."

I needed to hear that. I needed to be reminded of all the hard work that I put in over the first 6 months of the year and that I need to just keep working and practicing and reaching out to people.

Our teacher Julie’s speech at the end was also really inspiring (and had me in tears.) She said to us: “You are the light workers of the world.” Her speech reminded me of WHY I signed up for this course in the first place - why I wanted to help people and change lives. I think I’ve been getting so wrapped up in the little details of coaching sessions and things that haven’t been going as well and letting it bog me down.

I need to keep connecting with women and reaching out and being a light in people’s lives.

That’s WHY I do this - to be a lightworker. I know I was called to be a coach. I know I was called for something greater in this life - I am here to help and inspire.

I CAN do this - I just need to do the hard work. I just need to practice and practice and practice and not get so anxious about the outcomes - it’s up to my clients as to how their sessions go and what they get out of it, I just have to show up and be there to support them.

I am capable of accomplishing my dreams.

I am capable of being a light worker.

I BELIEVE in myself. I believe in what I do. I believe in me and the gift that God has given me to share with others.

What about you? Are you in the "development stage" of any part of your life? Or are you struggling to find the momentum to begin? If you ever want to chat, I'm here to help - just send me an email at Katie@peaceloveandoats.com and I'll be there for you!

The Platinum Edge 2016

Sept 26, 2016

The theme of this weekend: Use your story to go after your dreams (or, who needs sleep?).

Screen Shot 2018-07-15 at 8.51.47 AM.png

This past weekend I was in Dallas, staying at the Gaylord Texan Resort, for a conference called The Platinum Edge. Beachbody was founded by a number of coaches, one of which was Christine Dwyer who created a team, Platinum Presenters, that now has over 200,000 COACHES! How crazy is that? She and her husband chose to put on a conference for the past four years JUST for her team and ours is the only team who does this!

I am SO blessed to have such an amazing leader in Christine and be on her team!

Screen Shot 2018-07-15 at 8.53.10 AM.png

I was up BRIGHT and early Friday morning to drive up to the Denver airport and fly out to Dallas. Once I arrived at the hotel, it was coffee time and waiting for my other teammates to meet me there. We hugged, snacked, and headed out to the first afternoon of speakers, which were AWESOME. You're going to hear that word a lot, get used to it ;). After a veeeerrry long day, we were ready for some wine that Anna had brought. Sadly, we had no wine opener. We had to pay FOUR DOLLARS for them to bring this beauty up to the room. I had to gouge the wine cork to get it out.

Not pretty. But hilarious.

Screen Shot 2018-07-15 at 8.56.12 AM.png

We went to a Mexican restaurant inside the resort for dinner and had soooo much fun just drinking our margaritas, laughing, and chatting about how excited we were to be there.

The next morning we were up early again for a TurboKick live workout!! I had done the same style workout at this event last year, so it was a lot of fun! I LOVE the high energy of these workouts and I might have to do some at home with Beachbody On Demand soon!

Who doesn't like kicking and punching when you need to get your frustrations out?

Screen Shot 2018-07-15 at 10.58.25 AM.png

Afterwards, we did a big "team photo!" What team is this? Well, different leaders above me have created amazing team cultures for me to be a part of. My teams are: Platinum Presenters > Shrednation > Team Inspire Joy.

This is our Shrednation family!

Screen Shot 2018-07-15 at 11.02.19 AM.png

After our workout, we went to quickly take this photo...

Random, I know, but I really wanted a comparison to last year's photo.

Does anyone else notice a difference?

I certainly did! You can read more about my thoughts on this change here.

After showering it was time for a LONG day of speakers and note taking. I was FIRED UP AND READY!

We learned SO MUCH GOOD STUFF at this conference, I cannot even begin to tell you. Some of the speakers had me in tears, others had me furiously writing down notes until my hand cramped up. I cannot WAIT to go back through all my notes and start sharing all the great things I learned. Here are just a couple little nuggets from my day one notes:

You decide where you want to grow and that’s where you show up no matter what.

Don’t spend time doing things that aren’t serving you.

You won’t find inspiration sitting around thinking about helping people.

Happiness doesn’t fall out of the sky; you have to work for it.

The longer you wait, the great the odds are you won’t.

Shit is going to happen, but igniting your potential is a lifelong decision.

After day 2, we were POOPED. For real. We decided to make our second annual trip to Sweet Tomatoes for an amazing all you can eat salad, soup, bread, and dessert bar. We were a happy group of ladies, let me tell you. :)

Round 1: Salads. Round 2, 3, 4, etc... not pictured. ;)

Screen Shot 2018-07-15 at 11.08.52 AM.png

The next morning I couldn't sleep well, so I decided to get in a quick run. I was supposed to run six miles, but I ended up only running four because my hip started to hurt. Lucky for me, I ran into Marti down in the workout room and ran a few miles with her!

Screen Shot 2018-07-15 at 11.13.16 AM.png

I "met" Marti online right when I was beginning my coaching business (she's on another team under Platinum Presenters called MizFIT Republic) and we've been keeping in touch ever since! This was our second time getting to meet at a Beachbody Coaching event, which is so cool since she's from Fargo, ND and I may have never met her otherwise!

Screen Shot 2018-07-15 at 11.13.48 AM.png

After I finished running I headed upstairs to join the ladies in a Piyo workout! WHEW my legs were tired! I left a song early to go shower (and got locked out of our room...) but it was a great workout. I LOVE Piyo live as well - such good energy!

Screen Shot 2018-07-15 at 11.16.13 AM.png

And then it was our LAST DAY!

We had another half day of speakers/sessions and these were just as good as the first! We also had to sneak in a picture with the amazing Hank:

Screen Shot 2018-07-15 at 11.17.13 AM.png

He was the mascot of our section of the hotel, so obviously very important. After our last sessions we hung out at the hotel for a while until it was time to leave for the airport. I am SO THANKFUL for these amazing women who showed up for themselves with me this weekend. I seriously cannot imagine my life without this team supporting me and loving me no matter what. They push me towards my dreams, listen when I'm down, and don't let me give my crap excuses.

Thank you so much, Anna and Bri!

Screen Shot 2018-07-15 at 11.17.36 AM.png

Finally, it was time for the airport! Anna and I were both delayed so we went to TGIFRidays for some dinner and then froyo afterwards! Not the best... but it certainly hit the spot!

Screen Shot 2018-07-15 at 11.18.35 AM.png

Then we were delayed some more.

Then I was delayed a little more.

And then some more...

Screen Shot 2018-07-15 at 11.20.06 AM.png

Finally, I made it to Denver, but I still had to collect my car and drive all the way back to Colorado Springs. I definitely drank some energize and had some snacks to keep me awake. Lots of music and open windows as well. Not a fan of that activity.

Screen Shot 2018-07-15 at 11.20.16 AM.png

But I made it home. And slept. For 3 hours... Most days I love that my body wakes up early no matter what, but not on days where I go to bed at 3:30am!

Screen Shot 2018-07-15 at 11.20.24 AM.png

So there you have it, my trip to Dallas and my great weekend of learning! Keep an eye out for some more great epiphanies and lessons coming your way!
