Beauty Should Be Good For You

Beautycounter’s 15% off Sale is happening NOW (Aug. 6th - 12th), so I don’t want you to miss out on this opportunity to test out some products. There is a 60-day return policy so there’s no risk to giving something a try.

In light of the current Friends and Family Sale happening at Beautycounter, I thought now would be a great time to share why I joined Beautycounter, why I believe in this company, why it’s different from others and, of course, my favorite products from their line.

I decided to try Beautycounter around the time of my 30th birthday because I thought it was about time I do more than just wash my face and put on the same lotion I’d been using for the past ten years. At the same time, I had started to become more environmentally conscious of both waste (plastic!!) and the products I was using, like switching to glass containers and more natural cleaning products.

I’d seen Clare of Fitting It All In post about Beautycounter for a while and thought, if I’m going to make a change then I should go all in and choose a brand that seemed like a better choice for my health. I tried out two products (Dew Skin and Countermatch Adaptive Moisturizing Lotion) and absolutely loved them and the more I learned about the lack of regulation and potential harm from chemicals, the more I appreciated both Beautycounter’s self-regulation and mission to change our laws so every company has to use safer products.

Chemicals and Regulation

I have assumed that products were generally safe but once I started reading a bit more, I discovered that the FDA hasn’t passed a major law on personal care products since 1983. Say WHAT?! Over 80,000 chemicals are used in products on the market today and most have never been tested for safety. However, the EU bans over 1,400 ingredients because they are either known to cause health issues or they could potentially do so. US companies don’t even have to list all of the ingredients in their products (for example “fragrance” contains many chemicals but is considered a trade secret).

We put these products on our bodies and our families every day but most people have no idea that they could be harming their health. Some of these toxic chemicals can mess with your hormones, potentially causing infertility, and many of the ingredients in skin and beauty products have been linked to cancer.

Beautycounter has banned the use of more than 1,500 questionable or harmful chemicals through their “Never List” and are completely transparent about all the ingredients in their own products.

Fighting For Change

Since Beautycounter launched in 2013, we have collectively sent over 135,000 emails, made over 10,000 calls, and held over 1,250 meetings with lawmakers. Advocating for better laws on both the Federal and State levels, Beautycounter has raised the profile of personal-care product legislation. In addition, education is key to Beautycounter and the more people know, the more they will support the passing new legislation and make safer choices for themselves and their families.

Performance of Products

Beautycounter’s mission is get high-performing products made with an industry-leading standard of safety into the hands of everyone. Safety AND performance are key to Beautycounter’s products. Raving reviews of Beautycounter have exploded in number in media outlets over the past year, so don’t just take it from me! I’ll include a blog post soon about my favorite Beautycounter products but, for now, here’s a simple list: Overnight Resurfacing Peel, Dew Skin, Countermatch Adaptive Moisturizer, Countermatch Recovery Sleep Cream, Countermatch Eye Rescue Cream, Countertime Tetrapeptide Supreme Cream (night cream), Countertime Antioxidant Soft Cream (daytime moisturizer), and Countertime Ultra Renewal Eye Cream.

Catching Up... May 2019 Edition

How is it already the second half of May?? What happened? I have no idea but I am definitely looking forward to summer. While I don’t get summer off, we work slightly shorter hours. Plus the fact that it’s supposed to SNOW tonight… So I’m ready for some sunshine. Here’s what’s been going on with me lately:

At the beginning of the month, a coworker and I went to an ABBA cover band concert at Red Rocks Amphitheater. I believe this was the fifth time I’ve seen ABBA there and it never disappoints! Despite the snow, smaller crowd, and my ridiculous outfit keeping me from expressing my full dance abilities, we had a GREAT time! I’m so glad we didn’t let the weather keep us from going.

I Met Gregg Renfrew!!!

Gregg Renfrew is the Founder and CEO of Beautycounter and not only is she one of my fashion icons (so stylish!) she is such a role model and inspiration to me. I had no idea at the time how rare it is to get a chance to speak with her in person, so I can’t believe I had this opportunity. I may or may not have mumbled a few things and she had to stop me and ask my name… Winning. Major girl crush moment.

That same weekend, I went to a training event with Gina Murphy, who is the Chief Revenue Officer at Beautycounter. I met some other local consultants, which was really fun, and was definitely pushed out of my comfort zone as we paired up and practiced things like our “elevator pitch” or talked about our fears and what’s holding us back. This introvert was exhausted by the end but it was also very inspiring.

Okay, technically my parents live in Kansas now but my home is always KCMO (Kansas City, Missouri to you non-locals). I had a follow up appointment to check on my kidney function (doing great!) and a dentist appointment (prelude to the next story) so I went home for the whole weekend. Lucky me, it was Mother’s Day weekend and I got to spend tons of time with my mom, along with the rest of my family. It was a great weekend at home!

I Need a Piano

Every time I go home and play on our piano, it makes me wish I had one (or at least a really good keyboard). It’s just so relaxing! I am NOT good after quitting in 5th grade, but I’d love to practice!

I’m Running More and More!

Last month, I talked about how I’m finally running again… well, now I’m up to 11 miles per week! Haha nothing wild… but more than 3 per week! Six of those 11 miles the past two weeks have been long runs as well. While it’s great I’ve gotten to that distance, I think I need to focus on upping my mid-week running game. This snow/rain, however, is putting a real damper on that plan (there’s a level of torture I don’t wish to endure this early on…).

I’m Getting a Root Canal…

Guess what I found out today? I bet you already guessed based on the title of this section. That’s right, I need a root canal. I’ve been told it’s not as horrible as it sounds and, to be honest, I’m more concerned about how much this is all going to cost me! Good thing I have dental insurance… Have you ever gotten one?? Give me tips below!

Catching Up... April 2019 Edition

It’s been a month since our last catch-up so I thought I’d do another post! Of course you can follow me day to day on Instagram (or if I see you all the time in real life…) but this is always fun for those who don’t and for me to take a look back on what I’ve been up to recently.

Running Again

I’m running the Chicago Marathon on October 13th with a few of my cousins to raise money for The Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation (my name doesn’t show up on the page but it’s my team!), which is the rare cancer that my aunt passed away from this past October. Since I’m running a marathon, I figured I should actually start running again… So I ran about 6 miles last week. HA. BUT I did run 4 all at once! Baby steps… Wish me luck on building up a base before official training at the beginning of June!

Beautycounter Store in Denver

Beautycounter is opening a pop up location in downtown Denver at the end of April and my team is hosting a private event! If you’d like to come to the event, send me an email at so we can get you RSVP’d. If you just want to check out the store, let me know! It’s a great opportunity to see their products and test things out in person.

If you don’t live in the area, Beautycounter does have a 60-day return policy that allows you to use the products and send them back if you don’t like it!

Spring Break

Yes, I get spring break! We had our spring break during the last week of March and it was nice to have a little time off. I did spend 3 days skiing and did a lot of errands and clean up around my apartment so it wasn’t 100% relaxing but I did get to do some fun things. I went to a coworker’s art show (and drinks before, of course) and did a 5k (walk) in the snow. A few of my coworkers and I also went to a speakeasy called Williams and Graham in the Highlands neighborhood (where the cool kids live) since our fundraising Gala coming up is speakeasy themed. Basically it was work research… right?

I Need a New Devotional

I finished reading 100 Days to Brave a little while ago and haven’t found a new devotional that I want to try. I’d really like something that builds on itself, like a lesson, rather than just day to day. I’d also like something not too long because that gets intimidating and I hate making that big of a commitment. Any suggestions?

My Niece is Three!

The older of my two nieces turned three last week and I can’t believe how much she has changed in the past six months. She is talking in full sentences and has grown up so much! Her little sister is almost eight months old so we’re getting into my favorite age - the 1-2 range where they want you to pick them up all the time and are learning to walk and talk. They’re just so cute. So sorry I can’t show a good picture but you can imagine… haha.

And that’s what’s been going on in my life!

Do you have a favorite devotional?
